Recognition of prior learning and competencies is an approach that allows adults to gain formal recognition of their competencies against socially established standards, including those presented in the curriculum. Depending on the objectives pursued by the adult, this approach enables them to identify the skills they have mastered and to report, if need be, the missing training to be acquired. At the end of the process, the recognition is recorded in an official document (transcript, certificate, diploma, etc.) attesting to either the set of skills specific to a given title (study program), or a part of the components of this title (units or training credits, etc.).
